From Analysis to Action: Ronald Bets on Himself with EverLine Coatings

Filed in Success Stories — October 9, 2026

Virginia, USA – Some people make the decision to become a business owner in a flash – but Ronald Imbert was not one of those people. And taking his time was exactly the right fit for him.

Paving line on road to demonstrate what EverLine Coatings franchise does

When Ronald and I first connected, he wasn’t necessarily looking for a franchise. He had been exploring Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA), considering existing businesses, looking at franchise opportunities and trying to answer a much bigger question:

What kind of business actually FITS me and the life I want to build?

After more than six months, multiple spreadsheets, plenty of analysis, numerous validation calls and a whole lot of diligence, Ronald found his answer. He launched EverLine Coatings in Central Virginia and is excited to kick off this new chapter as a franchise owner.

Ronald’s Background: Finance, Operations, and Entrepreneurship

Ronald brought an interesting mix of experience into his business search. His career included financial roles across telecommunications, manufacturing, technology, and retail, along with powerful operations experience. He had strong quantitative skills and plenty of experience working across functions, influencing stakeholders, setting priorities and driving execution.

But long before Ronald’s corporate career took off, he evidenced an entrepreneurial streak. Ronald’s early sales experience included selling pastries in high school and later selling strawberries via both B2B and B2C models. Those experiences introduced him to customers, pricing, negotiation and the basic concept that still drives every business:

Solve a need, deliver value, and earn the customer.

Ronald also brought leadership experience from outside the corporate world. He had co-founded and captained a competitive ultimate frisbee club and competed internationally as a member of the Dominican Republic National Team. Recruiting people around a shared vision, communicating across different backgrounds, and building a team around common goals gave him leadership experience that would translate well into ownership.

Best of all, Ronald knew exactly what he didn’t want more of: bureaucracy. He wanted the ability to make decisions, create an impact and ultimately control the outcome.

Why Business Ownership?

Ronald summed up his motivation pretty simply: He wanted to bet on himself.

At the same time, there was another piece that mattered just as much. He wanted to build something that could potentially be passed down to his children.

Business ownership represented an opportunity for long-term economic upside, eventual lifestyle flexibility and the ability to positively impact employees, customers and his local community.

That meant we weren’t searching for the hottest franchise concept or simply chasing the biggest Item 19 numbers. We were searching for FIT.

Defining Ronald’s Perfect Franchise FIT

As we worked through Ronald’s business profile, several characteristics kept surfacing. He was comfortable serving both B2B and B2C customers, but there was a natural alignment with a B2B-driven business. He understood partnerships, professional relationships, numbers and longer sales cycles.

He wanted to sell quality, not compete solely on price. He was comfortable with a business that required employees and could see himself building and leading a team of hourly, skilled/trade and sales professionals. He liked businesses with tangible outcomes: Do the work, see the result.

He was also attracted to businesses where there was a genuine reason for the customer to purchase – not simply a highly discretionary want. Regulatory, safety, maintenance, and asset-protection components were particularly interesting to him.

Importantly, Ronald wanted something he could build in Central Virginia, close to home and to his family. That profile began pointing us in a specific direction…

Why EverLine Coatings?

EverLine Coatings wasn’t simply a category that looked interesting on a spreadsheet. The model checked many of the boxes Ronald had identified before we ever started evaluating individual brands…

  • B2B Focus: The business provided an opportunity to develop relationships with commercial customers, property managers and other decision-makers – an environment that aligned well with Ronald’s professional experience.
  • Tangible Service: This wasn’t an abstract product. Customers could see the work being performed and the finished result.
  • Quality as a Priority: Ronald specifically wanted customers to choose his business because of the quality of the service being delivered.
  • Operational Complexity: Ronald’s diversity of experience, financial background, and ability to manage complex deliverables could seamlessly translate into scheduling crews, managing jobs, understanding margins and building efficient processes.
  • Team Building: Ronald wanted the opportunity to lead people. EverLine would require him to recruit, develop, and manage a team rather than remain an individual contributor.
  • Multiple Customer Needs: Rather than relying on one narrow service or customer type, the business created opportunities to solve multiple pavement-maintenance needs for commercial customers.
  • Local Market Ownership: Ronald could build relationships, reputation and market presence right here in Central Virginia.

Sounds like it checks all of the boxes, right? It did – but most important of all, Ronald could picture himself doing the job of the owner.

That is one of the most overlooked questions in franchise exploration. You never want to simply ask: “Do I like this business?”

You need to ask yourself: “Do I want to do what the owner of this business actually does every day?”

For Ronald, EverLine provided him with an option where that answer became an enthusiastic yes.

But First… More Spreadsheets

Ronald will readily admit that he is analytical. At the beginning of our process, he shared with me his tendency to continue researching, analyzing, and refining instead of making the decision.

So naturally, there were spreadsheets. (And more spreadsheets.)

But there were also Validation Calls with existing franchise owners, conversations with the franchisor, financial analysis, market research and plenty of questions about franchising itself.

Ronald wanted to understand franchise agreements, renewal terms, fees, franchisor economics, and whether the value of being part of a franchise system justified the additional costs compared with operating independently.

Those weren’t obstacles to overcome. They were questions that deserved answers.

As a franchise coach, my goal in franchise exploration is never to convince someone to buy a franchise. It is to help them gather enough information to make an educated decision – even when that decision is NO.

Eventually, though, diligence has to become a decision. And for Ronald, that decision was YES.

Your Timeline Is for YOU to Decide

Ronald’s journey took more than six months – and that is completely okay. It’s actually pretty normal. Why? Buying a business isn’t the same as clicking purchase on Amazon Prime.

Some prospective franchise owners know quickly. Others need time to validate assumptions, understand the economics, compare alternatives and become comfortable with the risks.

Ronald explored ETA. He evaluated franchising. He challenged assumptions. He ran numbers. He talked to different owners.

And eventually, the person who described himself as someone who could sometimes over-analyze decided he had enough information. It was time to act.

From Corporate Career to Central Virginia Business Owner

Today, Ronald is building EverLine Coatings in Central Virginia. He’s taking his financial discipline, operational experience, relationship-building skills, positive energy, and analytical brain and putting them to work for something he owns.

Ronald was not searching for guaranteed success. He  was searching for an opportunity where the owner role, customer, staffing model, business model, lifestyle, and his personal strengths aligned. He found his FIT. And then, he bet on himself.

Congratulations, Ronald! We cannot wait to see what you build with EverLine Coatings.
